Week 1

We moved forward on several things week.  We met with our architect, and he agreed to draw up a couple different scenarios for the house.  He will do initial drawings and then we will pick and choose the different things we want and then he will put an overall master plan together.  I also met with the septic guys  (its always fun to chat with septic guys).  They recently did a perk test on our second lot when the previous owner subdivided the property.  So, the good news is we know we could at least put the septic system  on the other lot.  They seemed to think it would not be a problem to update the system (famous last words).
We also met with folks at the Sharon Historical Society and they had some information on the house, but not a ton of details.  We at least confirmed that the house is not on the national historic registry (which is good) and it is not in any of the town historic districts (also good), so we do not have to get any reviews of any changes that we make to the house.  We also confirmed that the house was originally owned by Zebulon and Alice Waters, the aunt and uncle of Debra Sampson (whose history I will write about in more length when I start in on the 'History of the House Page').  Another important piece of information is that the house was, until recently in the town of Stoughton.  The town lines have been moved around several times, and despite the fact that it is in Sharon now, it used to be in Stoughton.  We took a quick trip to the Stoughton Historical Society, and they had tons of information about the house.  They had so much information, that I cannot even get into it in this blog entry.
As far as physical work, the only major job this week was cleaning out the barn.  We rented a 30 yard dumpster, and it is almost full.  Here is a befaore and after picture of the barn:

I started on the basement of the barn this week, so I will post some pictures of the stables all cleaned up and some of the old farm equipment we found.
