With all of the snow days and holidays (including a great, long weekend in Vt), we did not get a lot of physical work done on the farm. The only construction work done involved installing bolts in the new front doors of the barn so that they closed tight enough to keep out all of the snow. I also started measuring and planning for the replacement of the two, large back doors of the barn. I guess we did a bunch of work at the house if you count the multiple hours of snow blowing the driveway.
We met with the architect and reviewed the initial drawings for the house remodel. We looked at two different designs, both of which involved tearing down the addition on the back of the house and adding a new kitchen and such to the back of the house. We liked the drawings were the addition stayed roughly in the same footprint of the original house. We would remove the current kitchen and open the wall between the current kitchen and the living room. That would give us space for a cozy little living room and a place for large dining room table. The addition would house the new kitchen as well as a mud room/entrance area. The first drawings also incorporated a bathroom and a laundry closet to the entry. We thought it would be better to move the bathroom and laundry closet and replace it with a big walk-in pantry that would sit right off the kitchen.
The architect also drew up plans that involved adding a sun room to the first floor and a master suite the second floor. We loved the idea of having a real master bed room and the sun room looks great as well, but I think we are going to be able to do everything all at once.
I also took a little trip to Brookline today to look at some cabinets that one of Ami's Dad's tenants left in one of his commercial buildings. I think I am going to grab them and use them in the shop that I trying to put together in the barn under the loft. It would be great to have a space to work on all of the projects that we are going to have to tackle in the coming years. It would still leave plenty of space for the climbing wall.
