Weeks 15 and 16

Well, we may not have anyone working on the house yet, but at least Paul the tree guy came by to remove a bunch of trees. It was sad to think that some of these trees have been here for almost a hundred years, but a bunch of them are in bad shape and they are hanging over the house and barn.  Here is a video of the guys walking up and cutting down the tree next to the barn:

That tree went down a lot easier than the huge ash tree next to the barn.  One of the tree guys told me he was Virginia and then he said that the tree was "the biggest ash tree he had ever seen". I thought he said "biggest ass tree", so I though "really, don't you cut trees down for a living? I'm sure you have seen bigger trees than this".  Here is a video of the guys pulling part of the tree down:

The ash tree was in really bad shape, it was completely hollow and was encased in a huge system of vines. Here is a picture of the stump of the branch that was hanging over the back of the house:

We ended up cutting three tress down that were right next to the house and the barn.  This will let in a lot  more light to the side and front yard.  Here is a before and after picture from the driveway.

After

Looks a little cleaner.  We cut down about eight trees, so we ended up with a lot of wood.

Looks like firewood will be the first product of the farm.  It is also starting to look like spring around here, and the new excitement is seeing what plants are going to pop up next......

  1. If you cut a few more trees down you'll have room for the ol' chebby in the front yard, right next to the pick-up ;)
