Rainy Week

We had too much rain this week to get any of the roof done, so we concentrated on getting some more demolition done inside the house.  The crew removed the entire chimney from the roof all the way to the foundation.
While they were doing that, I removed all of the sheet rock and insulation (the first insulation that I have come across in this project) in the new living room.
This is the addition that was put on in the seventies, so the construction is about as modern as this house gets.  We will be removing all of the windows and replacing them, so it was easier to just remove the walls so that we could have better access to the window frames and so that we could add new insulation and run all of the new plumbing and electrical. We also gutted the hallway bathroom upstairs, because it is going to become a guest bedroom, and the old fourth bedroom is going to become the new hall bathroom on the second floor.

The second floor was added in the 1800's, so the framing is a little more modern than the walls on the first floor, but still pretty rustic  Nice beams in the ceilings on the second floor as well.

The other interesting event at the house this weekend was arrival of Deborah Sampson (later to become Gannett) at the front door.  Not for real, but for a movie that Steve Connolly is doing about the life of Deborah Sampson.  She arrived at her aunt and uncle's house (our farm house) after serving in the revolutionary war.  Here are some pictures of the actors at the front of the house.

Hopefully with some nice weather we will get the roof on this week.
